ARTIST BIO
Having a lifelong interest in drawing, Heidi Harner began studying painting while living in Colorado in 1994. Since then she has enjoyed working in oils, doing both plein air and studio painting. Subjects of interest include much of God's natural world: horses, dogs, farm animals, landscapes, and still-lifes. For her, oils are a joy and a constant challenge.
Heidi is an associate member of WAOW (Women Artists of the West). She is a member of the |
|
CCA Gallery in Zionsville, Indiana, and the online western art gallery, Dakota Rocks. A BFA from Purdue University and her experiences as a professional art conservation framer have helped refine Heidi's natural abilities as an artist.
Heidi is one of the women featured in GaWaNi Pony Boy's book, "Of Women and Horses: More Reflections of the Magical Bond," published by Bowtie Press, 2005.
She resides in Lafayette, Indiana with her husband, Brad, his daughter, Cassie, and two amusing dogs named Joey and Lucy.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Art and creativity is a passion I've had since childhood. My 'fun time' was grabbing a pencil and paper and getting lost in my drawings. I remember favoring art class above any other class in school. Each time, I would experience an excitement before we could get started; I always had a fire in my belly. I still get that feeling when I'm about to start a new painting.
In college I studied graphic design, but I really wanted to be a fine artist. Later, when I became a designer, I was designing around art; I was putting someone's artwork into a page layout. I knew I wanted to be the one making the art. Funny how things work out, because now I make the art.
When I am painting, espcially plein air (outside and on location), I feel connected to God. My soul is satiated and contentedly full. Painting is my way of expressing myself. I want to say to you that I find God's creation beautiful, and I want you to see what I see.
